Remember when Trump and the senate Republicans tried to rescind Obama Care during the first year of Trump’s presidency? Remember the town hall meetings with citizens in their MAGA hats raising hell at the Republican congressmen, including Mitch McConnell? They quickly backed away from their position on that issue, and we all took solace in the prospect that our system of checks and balances would ultimately protect us from the madness of Trump’s personal agenda. Shortly after that, the Republicans passed their massive tax cut for the rich and all those MAGA activists didn’t say a word even though that policy was far and away, against their interests. The message to the Republican congress was clear. Do whatever you want, steal as much tax money as you want, objectify and debase as many women as you want, destroy the very air we breath and the water we drink if you want, as long as you continue to make policies that validate the concept that they are the rightful heirs to this country that their European ancestors took by force of arms and everyone else in this country is here to serve at their pleasure. The proof in what I’m saying lays in the fact that they didn’t go after the politicians presiding over the destruction of the post office, which (if polls have any validity at all) has been unmistakably documented as a policy they abhor to a greater percentage than they did the threat to their healthcare proposed by the Republicans a few years ago.
As a result, we have witnessed the systematic destruction of all the institutions put in place to safeguard our democracy and the welfare of all of us, as a means of preventing the government from being used to benefit minorities of color, regardless of the fact they are doing at least as much harm to themselves in the process. Our most trusted allies have been shunned and abandoned in favor of our new allies, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, all of whom rely on the combustion of fossil fuels and the destruction of the environment for their existence. The MAGA people continue to support a president who ignored scientist’s warnings of the threat of the corona virus just as he continues to ignore the ten-year window scientists have stated we have to reverse the impact of climate change. In many ways, the COVID victims are prophets of sorts. The way they describe their difficulty breathing and the constant fatigue and malaise they feel, is what we all have to look forward to in ten years, if we continue on this current path we’re on of ignoring hard scientific fact. The men leading us down this path are old and cynical and don’t believe their quality of life will be worth living anyway in ten years. In spite of their pious arrogance, most of them have shown themselves to be hedonistic sexual deviants, and not at all worthy of public trust.
At least 70% of all Americans are fed up with Donald Trump and everything that goes with him. The problem is that at least 10% of mostly white Americans still believe he must be tolerated for practical reasons. They continue to be influenced by Fox News and far rightwing media propaganda and fail to recognize that their very lives and the lives of their children are in real danger, and we are running out of time to turn things around. They are sleep walking in a dream that they can’t seem to wake up from. Never the less, we must continue to do all we can to help them see the light right up to the last day. It is their votes that will render the red states joining the majority, making it clear to all that America is done with Trump.
So what must we all do? First of all we must understand that this election is no longer a matter of politics but a matter of survival of the human race. We can’t afford another day of Trumpism after January 20, 2021. In that regard, we must all understand that voting this year is a matter of life and death. Whatever you must do to get your vote counted, you must do. If it means risking you life by exposure to COVID, you must do it. If it means losing a day’s pay when the rent is due, you must do it. Whatever the cost in life or treasure, you must do it. If you don’t, nothing else will matter anyway. We will never again know the good life.
